Apocalyptic (literature)
For a modern mind, the word "apocalypse" means a great
world disaster. But in fact, it is the transcription of αποκαλυψιζ a Greek term which simply means "laying bare," "unveiling."
Uncommonly used in non-religious Greek, it appears rather often in the biblical
translation of the Septuagint, where it refers to a "laying bare" in the
material sense, but above all, in the figurative sense, to the "revelation" of
human or divine secrets.
